Eye on Idol
After spending more than a month living and breathing nonstop Canadian Idol, eliminated competitor Brandon Jones says the experience has given him a new life goal -- to one day work on the country's most popular show.
The Quispamsis, N.B. teen still plans to finish high school (he starts his last year this fall), and hopes to put out a record sometime in the coming years (he's begun writing his own songs with a guitar), but says after graduation he'd like to move to Toronto and get involved in the series that helped him grow up faster than he ever expected.
"The show has done so much for me," he told Eye on Idol the night of his elimination at Top 8. "I'd love to come back here and try to help the competitors out because I... know what they're going through. One of my lifelong dreams is to start working for this show. It's just such an amazing show and it's given so much to me.... I'd like to give back."
In the meantime, the 17-year-old plans to head home, relax, get back involved with his theatre groups -- the KV Players and Kidsing -- and hopefully find some venues to show off his improved singing skills since all the vocal and performance coaching he received while competing.
But first, he'll enjoy a week in Toronto without all the stresses of the packed Canadian Idol rehearsal schedule. He even hopes to attend the Top 7 shows to see what kind of craziness the competitors get up to on the classic rock episode.
"It's going to be a pretty stellar week," Jones said, noting he thought he'd be much more distraught when envisioning what it would be like to be cut from the show.
"I thought that I'd be a wreck, but everything that has happened so far in this competition has been unbelievable. To meet Cyndi Lauper and sing with her on that stage for my final night was an experience I'll never forget. I'm looking forward to seeing who will take this thing. It's such a close race."
And, anyway, he added, after weeks of negativity from the judges' desk, he knew his time was coming.
"I've definitely learned how to take criticism... I knew there was a chance that any week I could be in the bottom three and this week I was," said Jones, who sang Bon Jovi's "I'll Be There for You." "Everyone gave the performance of their lives (for the 1980s show) so you couldn't have picked who was going to be in your bottom three at all.
"I'm leaving this competition with the performance that I wanted... It's tough, but I'll get over it and I'll keep on rollin'."
awwww im so proud of him ;D
